Meet the Directors

J. Andrew Bowers
Director of Choral Activities

Drew Bowers was appointed Director of Choral Activities at Milton High School in 2007 where he conducts Chorale, Women’s Select, Concert Choir, and oversees the three extracurricular ensembles. He previously taught Advanced Placement Music Theory. Prior to his appointment at Milton, Mr. Bowers was the Choral Director at Carrollton Junior High School in Carrollton, Georgia. Professional memberships include American Choral Directors Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, MENC, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He is currently serving as Fine Arts Department Chair at Milton High School and has served in other various leadership roles within ACDA and GMEA. A native of Georgia, he holds a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Louisiana State University where he studied conducting with Ken Fulton and Sara Lynn Baird and voice with Loraine Sims. He also holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shorter College where he studied conducting with John Ratledge and voice with Brian Horne. Mr. Bowers has been involved in numerous conducting Masterclasses throughout the nation and selected as Guest Conductor for many honor choirs and Community Choirs. His singing experience as a tenor is with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the Atlanta Sacred Chorale. He has also been a featured soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and Haydn’s Nelsonmesse. He has prepared the music for various musicals throughout his career including, An Evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein Classics, Carousel, Cinderella, Drowsy Chaperone, Footloose, Grease, Hairspray, Into the Woods, Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables, Mary Poppins, Rock of Ages, South Pacific, Young Frankenstein, and Spamalot, for which he won the 2013 Shuler Hensley Award for Best Musical Direction. Mr. Bowers is currently the Director of Music at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church in Alpharetta, GA. He currently resides in Roswell with his wife Leslie and their daughters, Tucker (14) and Cora (6). Mr. Bowers was named 2019 STAR Teacher and a 2021-2022 Spotlight Teacher for Milton High School. He was also named 2017 Milton High School Teacher of the Year and was named a 2014 winner of Atlanta Families Awards for Excellence in Education.

Susan Wallace
Assistant Director of Music

Susan Wallace serves as Assistant Choral Director at Milton High School and currently conducts the Select Treble and Bella Voce choirs. She oversees 3 of the extracurricular choirs and teaches AP Music Theory and Piano Class. Before joining our Milton Fine Arts department, Susan served as Director of Choral Activities at Pace Academy in Atlanta, GA. She is an active member of Georgia Music Educators
Association, American Choral Directors Association and MENC. Susan holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shorter College where she studied conducting with John Ratledge, piano with
Mr. William Knight and voice with Dr. Shirley Brumbaugh. Having also been a staff accompanist at Reinhardt University, Susan accompanies various choral groups in the Atlanta area including the
Orpheus Men’s Ensemble. She assists as a music director at Orbit Arts Academy and serves as the Director of Music Ministry at Sandy Springs Christian Church.
